Future Elite Grads Take Home Three Eclipse Awards

On the back of a record year in 2019, three future Elite graduates captured Eclipse Awards last night at the 49th annual Eclipse Awards Dinner.

 

British Idiom, who went three for three last year with two Grade 1 successes, including the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies took the Eclipse Award for Champion Two Year Old Filly in a landslide vote, having handily defeated Bast, who checked in, in second place in the voting. British Idiom was purchased by Liz Crow at Fasig-Tipton October in 2018 on behalf of owners The Elkstone Group, Michael Dubb, Madaket Stables and Bethlehem Stables. British Idiom is training forwardly towards her three year old debut, which is tentatively scheduled to take place on February 15h in the G2 Rachel Alexandra at Fair Grounds.

This marks the second year in a row that these owners have won an Eclipse Award with a public auction purchase after the Kentucky Oaks and Breeders’ Cup Distaff winning Monomoy Girl, another future Elite graduate, took the award for Champion Three Year Old Filly last year.

Midnight Bisou was an easy winner of the Eclipse Award for Champion Older Mare for owners Bloom Racing, Madaket Stables and Allen Racing, after taking down seven stakes victories in 2019, including Grade 1 wins in the Apple Blossom, Ogden Phipps and Personal Ensign. The dark bay mare is currently training towards her 2020 debut, which is scheduled to take place in the $20 Million Saudi Cup on February 29th in Riyadh.

Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Uni was crowned Champion Female Turf horse after finishing out her campaign with overwhelming victories in both he G1 First Lady at Keeneland in addition to the Breeders’ Cup fixture against her male counterparts. Owned by Head of Plains Partners, Michael Dubb and Robert LaPenta, Uni is currently getting some much deserved downtime before returning to training where she will be looking to defend her Breeders’ Cup Mile crown.
