2020: A Year to Remember

As wild as 2020 has been, it’s been another record setting year for Elite Sales.

With 78 horses offered, Elite sold 73 of those offerings for a sum of $31,390,000 and an average of $430,000, all of which are considerably higher than the corresponding 2019 numbers that saw 61 horses sold for a gross of $17,713,000 and an average of $290,377.

The undoubted highlight of the year was the sale of two time Breeders’ Cup Distaff winner and likely two time Eclipse Award winner MONOMOY GIRL who sold for $9,500,000 at Fasig-Tipton’s Night of the Stars, a world record for a racing/broodmare prospect. Campaigned by Monomoy Stables, Michael Dubb, The Elkstone Group and Bethlehem Stables,  Monomoy Girl came back in 2020 having been off for a year and a half and went a perfect four for four, including victories in the G1 La Troienne in addition to her win in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

Bloom Racing, Madaket Stables and Allen Racing’s MIDNIGHT BISOU sold for $5,000,000 at Fasig-Tipton November after a stellar career which saw her earn five G1 victories, culminating with her earning the Eclipse Award as Champion Older Dirt Female. This year, Midnight Bisou ran a good 2nd in the $20,000,000 Saudi Cup before recording her final win in the G2 Fleur de Lis at Churchill Downs. Midnight Bisou closed her career out as the highest earning dirt filly or mare in racing history.
